Chartreuse liqueurs are especially valuable spirits that are produced by monks of the Carthusian order in the grand charter house of the monastery, in Voiron – near Grenoble, in France.

The production of Chartreuse liqueur is wound up in many secrets and myths. There are only two monks, Minister Benoit and Brother Jean-Jacques, who know the 130 various ingredients of the original recipe. Other sources relating to the original recipe are known by a third monk. We are relatively sure that ca. 1/3 of the ingredients originate in the Chartreuse region and the other 2/3 come from all over the world. All the ingredients, even including the coloring agents, used in all the charterhouse-produced liqueurs are 100% organic.

The Green Velvet Blanche is based on the original recipe from 1898. The herbs of the Jura and the water of the Val de Travers give this Absinthe a mild taste. The white Green Velvet offers notes of lemon balm and sweet wood, which can be discovered among other herbs. This combination of flavors is perfect for the world of cocktails. Lightweight, velvety and intense - this Green Velvet gives every Cocktail a unique flavor.

The Green Velvet Verte is based on the original recipe from 1898. The herbs of the Jura and the water of the Val de Travers unite in the spicy and yet clean and original absinthe taste.

The Green Velvet gets its clear green and 100% natural colour at night. The colouring is one of many secrets to make this absinthe unique. The seductive combination of slightly bitter wormwood in conjunction with anise flavour and sweet fennel, let the Green Velvet pass softly on the tongue. - Elegant and dry at the same time. It is served in traditional drinking manner - Green Velvet with ice-cold spring water.

In Scandinavia, during festivals and holidays, it's common to see bottles of herb-infused schnapps and aquavit passed around the dinner table or passed between friends during a crayfish boil. Of all of the different type of infused schnapps, the traditional "besk" or bitter schnapps is one of the most unique.

Avery Glasser, co-founder of bitters and bitter liqueur producer Bittermens, decided to keep the tradition of bitter schnapps production alive using very traditional methods. First, a high proof aquavit is made by infusing caraway into strong spirits. Licorice, rhubarb, citrus and other herbs are then macerated in the aquavit to slowly extract their flavor. Distilled wormwood is then blended in and the schnapps is finished with a little bit of sugar.

This Cocktail Bitters only recently appeared on the market. However, it was already popular among Cocktail Bitters. The two reasons for this are Dale DeGroff and Ted. A. Breaux. Pimento Aromatic Bitters is also sold under the name DD's Pimento Aromatic Bitters and Double-D Bitters. Due to the nature of allspice berry, this bitters is very spicy in its taste and versatility. Depending on personal preferences, it can refine all kinds of cocktails. King Cocktail DeGroff recommends gin, grappa and whiskey to taste with a dash of his bitters.

Distilled by Ted Breaux, this tobacco liqueur makes a very fine drink.

This is a classic absinthe verte with well-defined herbal components, not too heavy on the anise.

This is a rare red absinthe, made by a distillery in the UK.

The particular interesting fact about this absinthe is, that it comes with a small tube containing gold flakes, that can be added either to the whole bottle, or to each glass of Absinthe L'Adorée. A truly luxurious experience!

Göran and Henrik from Sankta Annas distillery have worked with record speed to get the correct permits to distill, and strong spirit in Sweden, a country renowned for its hard regulation of alcohol production. The first distilled absinthe in Sweden, and what a result!

Some very new interesting absinthes to drink this month from the Absintherie Bourbonnaise. The Absinthe Raisonée has wild artemisia-génépi in it, harvested above 6,500 ft.

The second edition is the same, with with an alternative label, signed by Bogumil Rychlak. Compared to the first edition it has been tweaked with the colour greener and the recipe slightly changed.

It’s a bit difficult to find a Czech absinthe that can compete with any of the French or Swiss absinthes in terms of quality and taste… with a few exceptions.

And Martin Zufanek is there to raise the standards. Supported by Stefano Rossoni, the La Grenouille creator, he has produced a wonderful and delicious absinthe, giving new colours to the Czech Republic!


Martin also distilled recently the latest batch from the St. Antoine absinthe. Unlike the previous versions, this one has a wine alcohol base, for the first and last time, a limited batch just for the pleasure of the St. Antoine lovers.

No need to introduce the Guy distillery anymore, all absinthe connoisseurs know its very famous François Guy absinthe already, a great example of consistency since 2001.

Many were however feeling sorry seeing that the distillery was not offering more products out of their alembics, and we had to wait for the 10th Pontarlier Absinthiades to see our wishes granted.

Even if the absinthe might benefit from a bit of oxygenation, it is already remarkable. Furthermore, it is a limited edition, signed by François Guy himself.
