Excellent!
Excellent!
Everything about Grön Opal is simply amazing. The colour is gorgeous dark green, the louche is opalescent green and almost impenetrably thick! Only Jade Edouard produces louche that thick. The flavour is very intense and complex. Actually, it reminds a little about Duplais Verte, only Grön Opal is way more advanced. It’s simply packed with flavour! Give it a try, go Swedish, you won’t regret it!
Just might be my new favorite absinthe. A bit less strong on the anise, but the balance of flavors is absolutely delicious and produces a beautiful, thick louche.

I have tried many. None compare to Gron Opal. I have yet to find ONE I prefer over it.
A complex taste, great louche, nice fruity notes and great wormwood flavor as well as many other herbs. Fantastic!
Beautiful louche giving a deep green colour. Herby nose full mouth flavour and numbing on the tongue. Exceptional and highly recommended
I truly enjoy this absinthe. It has the right level of bitter, creates a nice louche and a pleasant finish. It's interesting and enjoyable with s nice mount of anise flavor
Well balanced & delicious...Complex, robust, and a nice thick louche...Highly recommended :)
Overall: without a doubt a top-class verte absinthe, achieved thanks to the passion and knowhow of 2 Swedish guys, taking the time to source wild Swedish wormwood, and grow themselves top quality herbs, including some very specific to Sweden/Scandinavia.
Details-
Appearance: what a beautiful and vibrant emerald green! In terms of visible texture, it’s like olive oil.
Louche: doesn’t start immediately... but when it starts, it’s so sudden and thick, building up steadily in nice layers. Complete at 1:1. But can take a lot of water. Definitely one of the thickest I’ve seen, and with the most beautiful clear and distinct green layer at the top when louching. At the end of the louche, a beautiful milky green colour remains, inviting us to take the first sip.
Aroma: neat, a nice freshness... and immediately the wormwood! Wow! The wild Swedish wormwood aroma. Superb! Quickly followed by sweet anis and fennel. Similar aromas once louched, with some extra herbal aromas, as well as peppery/citrusy notes. A great deepness and complexity.
Flavour/Mouthfeel: oh wow! What a powerful one! First, some citrus notes (lemon balm), but immediately comes an incredible bite from the wild Swedish wormwood. Both fresh and deep. And numbing. Immediately. But also, a great balance with the other herbs used. A touch of delicate but complex sweetness, between fresh orange and orange peels. Some citruses are back. And black pepper.
Finish: the wormwood, the sweetness and the spices, come back all again and again by waves. One after the other... and then altogether... and then again. It never stops. There is some delicate liquorice or roots/dry herbs kind of flavours lingering nicely on the tongue.
I thought this was a very nicely balanced absinthe. I usually prefer more anise, but this had enough wormwood to make it interesting, but not overpowering. The herbs each seemed to take their turn on the palate quite nicely instead of fighting for the spotlight. Makes for a very pleasant tasting experience.
Christmass gift for my sun. Fast delivery. Same as last year.
A good benchmark for a fine verte. Would be a fine choice to introduce uninitiated friends.
Hands down my favorite absinthe. Very aromatic, extremely tasty, and a wonderful louche.
Absolutely delicious and enjoyable absinthe. A subtle & aromatic libation that sets a new standard.
This is absolutely lovely, a strong competitor for Esprit Edouard for those seeking a bold-flavoured traditional absinthe. Rich and delicious.
Amazing. The taste is sublime and powerful, really happy I ordered this after reading the other reviews. I love mixing my absinthe with prosecco or champagne, this did not disappoint at all!
This is the benchmark for the new generation of authentic, high quality absinthes. Period.
Powerful, an herbal explosion if you will, dominated by an amazing, very intense wormwood (and a generous amount of pontica, too) and in the same way perfectly balanced, with nothing out of proportion – this is the perfect absinthe. I don’t claim to know much about the art of distillation, but enough to comprehend, that this is a feat that can be achieved only by a true artisan. Among all the many great absinthes I have tasted over the last ten or so years, this is decidedly my number one verte. It is fresh, floral, powerful, seducing in every aspect, and its irresistible taste lingers on your palate forever. I simply cannot recommend it enough…
Grön Opal reminds you of what it’s like to fall in love. Need I say more?
Truly delicious and enjoyable absinthe. An absolute beauty.
This quickly became one of my all time favourite vertes. Fantastic taste. Has a very wild herb tone to it with what is almost like a cake or oatmeal note in there. Very delicious. I plan on getting more of this and the vit opal real soon .
I have heard a great deal of my Facebook friends talk about this one. After picking it up I can see why. A must try!
Your Absinthe is excellent. I'm totally pleased with your product....Thank You
Very good absinthe, I'm fairly new to absinthe and this is my third bottle I've tried. The aroma is fantastic, very strong with anise as is the flavor, the louche is thick and shows quickly. So far I'd have to say this one will be a favorite.
Smells good and tastes even better. Also price is quite decent for product this tasty. Definetly recommended!
Quite good - very strong herbal flavor. Louche is quick and thick.
other than taking a while it was what I expected. I thought that it was illegal in the US, but it isn't. I would like to know the amount of wormwood in the bottle.
excellent - well worth trying if you are looking to taste an absinthe that has a more complex character!
This is a quality absinthe. I would recommend it to
anyone who wants a quality Verte.
Wow. Just wow, amazing complexity in this absinthe. I love sitting on my balcony in the sun drinking this!
This is by far my favorite absinthe to date. I have tried 30 different brands, all due to ratings and recommendations. This outshines them all.
I have drank several small batch potent green absentee. Most of the more potent being from Czechoslovakia namely Cami's ultra mazima , Tolul.ouse LAUTREE CHRISTMAS ADDITION THE DEVILS, LA GRAN FEE . But this Swedish absinthe is by far top of the list not only is the effect outstanding and only requireing one glass to feel the time put into selecting fresh herbs and the time in aging. but the taste is some would say complex. I say complete. Period a great drink for the people's and priced for the people's keep it up ...An american whom loves a great drink.
Loved it...the licorice note is amazing...and the green color when mixed with sugar and water makes you feel relaxed
I did find this absinthe pleasing. However, I cannot say I fully agree with other commentators. True, the fluid is a beautiful green. And the louche! Amazing! The aromas were quite nice also. But the taste, in my opinion, was missing something that I just couldn't put my finger on. There were plenty of subtle flavors all over and maybe that was the problem. I enjoy a drink with a robust flavor that gently fades to reveal all sorts of other flavors. I find this quality appealing in aged scotch, aged whiskey, aged wine, etc. You get the picture. I've tried many other absinthes (they don't have to be aged) and they all seem to follow this pattern of a full bodied flavor up front with many subtle flavors to follow. I guess that's just how I like it. This absinthe has many flavors, just none that really excited me. I would recommend this to anyone looking to experiment gently with new products. Maybe a "novice" might enjoy this as a step up. To the initiated, they might be disappointed.
Forget about it. This is at the pinnacle of modern European absinthe. I agree with one reviewer, who said this may be the most intense absinthe available. In terms of flavor and herbal power, the only elixer that came close in my opinion was the Jade Esprit Eduard. Both are truly amazing but this one veers slightly off the traditional path, offering a unique powerhouse bouquet that is intense and super satisfying. I am not good enough to pluck out individual flavors and turn out a review on each, but the overall experience here is a must try. Already on my reorder list because my first bottle went dry in just a few weeks, masterworks like this one will be recognized by the masses as being some of the greatest commercially available absinthe on the market, period.
These guys in Sweden know what they are doing, and put several (but not all) bottles of Swiss and French verte to sulk in their defeat. A major player in the absinthe game has emerged and isn't going anywhere folks.
This may be of the most intense absinthe available, one of the few that can be diluted even further than 1:5. The color is a beautiful vibrant dark green, the louche is rich and very thick, aroma and taste are very complex, with hints of wild herbs and the right amount of bitterness. I usually drink two glasses of absinthe in a row, but this one is so satisfying that just one glass is enough. Among the very very best. I have many other bottles of less intense absinthe, they look so dull now...
“The Thing of the idols, the green, sticky spawn of the stars, had awaked to claim his own. The stars were right again, and what an age-old cult had failed to do by design, a band of innocent sailors had done by accident. After vigintillions of years great Cthulhu was loose again, and ravening for delight.” - H.P. Lovecraft
Like the great and sticky spawn Cthullu I "awaken and claim (my) own" too in this verdant offering from Svensk Absinth Distillery. Give a naval salute to Absinthe Grön Opal! While some recesses of this mortal plane should remain unnamed and forgotten, this delicious and fragrant, "talisman" in a bottle demands to be invoked, raised high to the stars and worshipped. Grön Opal, Grön Opal, GRÖN OPAL!!!
With a nice glass of Grön Opal, DELIGHT is upon me!
Recommendation: MAXIMUM
I find Grön Opal aka Spanksinthe a great and interesting absinthe. Louche, scent, colour and taste are very full. So a delight to the senses. I really like to see how Grön Opal evolves with time. Now it is very fresh and inviting. Trying to save a bottle for a decade or so could be interesting... Like it's sibling Vit Opal it's a top product and everyone interested in quality absinthe should try it.
Absolutely an absinthe to taste. It has a very rich herbal flavour, a great louche and nice green colour. This is definitely a very high quality absinthe. Highly recommended!
Although not purchased from absinthes.com, because I'm Swedish and bought a couple of bottles here at home, I must say that Grön Opal is a high quality premium absinthe. Rich, pretty complex and very balanced means that this, on my behalf, only is a tad below Jade 1901 (which i best I've had so far). Splendid in other words.
Svensk Absint, Sweden
The Svensk Absint Distillery is a small distillery in Örebrom, Sweden. It was founded by Mikael Norell and Tomas Runnquist in 2009.
After several years of hard work and many distillation tests, the two friends put their first two absinthes on the market: the Vit Opal and the Grön Opal. The Vit Opal (White Opal) is the first Blanche absinthe ever produced in Sweden. Every step in the production is done by hand: from the growing and harvesting of the best plants to the bottling and the labelling.
The Svensk Absinthe Distillery focuses on small batches made with high quality selected ingredients, that both friends harvest by hand. Almost all plants come from the distillery's herb garden: roman wormwood (Artemisia pontica), melissa, hyssop and many other ingredients, carefully picked by hand. This allows a better control of the plants' quality. The high quality is particularly important to Mikael and Tomas, which explains why they spend the largest part of their time in the herb garden.
The grand-wormwood, one of absinthe's most important ingredients, is not cultivated, but rather foraged from the wild. It is only found in certain locations in Sweden. The amount of absinthe they can produce depends on how much wormwood they harvest in August. After the harvest, the absinthe is brought back home and hung up for drying in the distillery's attic for one year. The aroma of these two absinthes is particularly intense and fragrant. The distiller himself says that this wormwood is of much better quality than any cultivated ones.
The distillation takes place in a 125l still, filled only to 90l. After the distillation, the absinthe is stocked in barrels for at least three months before being bottled, to ensure a rounded flavour.
Ecological thinking is very important to Mikael and Tomas: they are careful to respect nature when growing their herbs and foraging their wormwood, and a large array of solar panels provides the distillery with power.
