The Esmeralda Absinthe is distilled in Boveresse in the Val-de-Travers in Switzerland, by traditional craftsmanship. Esmeralda is the first “Verte” by Philippe Martin. This is a very interesting and unusual absinthe because the Swiss are actually viewed as being more typically successful in creating clear (“La Bleue”) types of absinthe. Are you out to taste the difference between a Verte from France and one from Switzerland? This absinthe is made of different plants that are cultivated in the Val-de-Travers, such as wormwood, Roman wormwood, lemon balm and hyssop. The alcohol content is 72% volume – exceptionally high! We recommend you to try this absinthe first without sugar, and then add according to taste and preference. Due to the high alcohol content, however, you may wish to add sugar to balance the strong taste. Absinthe Esmeralda was awarded the gold medal at the Distisuisse 2015-2016 and at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in 2016.

Since the liqueur is automatically filled into bottles, up to 30,000 bottles can be produced in one day.

Serving Suggestion

We recommend that you enjoy Amaro Lucano with crushed ice or with a little orange zest. In addition, the liqueur is also ideal for the refinement of cocktails. Here are some recipes.

This is a very interesting and high-quality Verte. Don’t be afraid to add water, it can handle it. Higher ratios like 4:1 unlock its floral and more delicate notes. It has a very nice building, layered finish.

Geht stark in Richtung Angelique No. 1, nur alkoholischer. ) Absinthe...

There are a lot of things to like about the Esmeralda: it is floral, refreshing, well balanced and pleasantly bitter.
In short it is what you expeckt but nothing more.
Having said that; I will probobly be making a few; Chrysanthemums and 4th degrees

Really nice Swiss verte. Even though at 72% - you would barely know as is very easy-going when prepared.

As the first reviewer, I will do my best to give justice. This absinthe is actually pretty good, but don't expect much from it like a Jade or Emile Pernot. This is your Ordinare in fashion with several nice flavors working together. Nothing too complex but very refreshing. This is for beginners, and to be used as a line and sinker to get someone not of the know interested. On the contrary, it can be enjoyed by the seasoned veteran as well but it will not be his prime choice. There is not much character here and some people don't want that anyway. So for what it is this is a nice selection off the shelf. The only thing that deters me from further purchase is the price, which matches some of the finest in the business. In my opinion, this is a $55 bottle easily, but struggles to be worth its current purchase price.

The distillery of Philippe Martin is situated in Boveresse, in the Val-de-Travers, the birthplace of absinthe and today home to some of the finest absinthe distilleries.

Philippe Martin distills his absinthes in an old house known to locals as La Maison des Chats, a centuries-old building decorated with stone sculptures of cats. Right opposite is the distillery's own garden, where most of the herbs used for Philippe's absinthe is cultivated.

Philippe took over the distillery from his father Francis Martin in 2014, who distilled for 33 years during the time of the absinthe ban in Switzerland. When absinthe was re-legalized in 2005, Francis received a licence to produce absinthe legally.
