La Veuve Verte absinthe is issued from a true family tradition. It is produced in very small quantities and represents without a doubt one of the best "vertes". Its home-made production comprises only products 100% natural. Moreover, even though the family recipe has evolved, the absinthe stayed true to the tradition : powerful flavors for a sensible taste. Its natural coloration is made in the way of the CF Berger and includes only plants from the Val-de-Travers : petit wormwood, hyssop, melissa and a few others (that must be kept secret). A mixture of character and mellowness in this traditional verte. To discover as soon as possible!
Serving Suggestion- At first, savour La Veuve Verte with half a piece of sugar. Then add more or less according to your taste. - For one measure of absinthe (3cl), add 2 to 5 measure of fresh water.
Did you know?- The distiller's daughter who designed this absinthe's beautiful label wished to become a « distilly » when she is bigger. (originally « distilette », in French)
HistoryIt is in 1951 that the current distiller's father, nephew of La Malote - legendary clandestine female distiller of the region, started to distill illegally in Fleurier, in the Val-de-Travers, Switzerland. M. Matthey-Claudet, a tinsmith in Môtiers, had built his own still and had taught him the art of distillation. He then elaborated a recipe that gave a pretty white absinthe with a touch of the bitterness of grand wormwood – not too strong, flavoured by a few other herbs, carefully measured. After that, Marta Charrère (the mother of the current distiller) was the one to be in charge of the distillation, the bottle filling and the delivery to the custommers. The distillation lasted over 40 years illegally. In November 2005, JJC took over the distillation, legally this time, since absinthe was legalised in Switzerland on the 1. March that same year.

Monsieur DuVallon, as he is nicknamed by the absinthe community, is a Switzerland-based absinthe distiller from the Val-de-Travers. His great aunt was Ms La Malotte, one of the most famous clandestine absinthe distillers in Switzerland while the absinthe ban. She used to distil clandestine absinthe and trade it for beet root alcohol. Her aim was to prevent absinthe from extinction and we believe that she taught Mr DuVallon the art of absinthe distilling. DuVallon used to be a photographer and journalist. Today, in his 60s, he focuses on distilling absinthe.
