Libertine 72 is fine and powerful. Its balance and its various plants make it a ideal companion to discover absinthe.

Libertine 72 Intense was awarded the gold medal at the international competition in Lyon in 2019.

It is the sister of Libertine 55, with a higher alcohol content, but also, due to its complexity, very different to the first version.
Produced according to a recipe from last century (1894), Libertine 72 is an authentic absinthe.
It is entirely made with plants and seeds. Its colour is 100% natural.
In its composition are included mainly grand wormwood, green anise, star anise, liquorice, fennel, coriander, Melissa, hyssop and veronica.
Libertine 72 has the particularity of having been produced from a distilled blend (each plant macerates and is then distilled individually before blending)

An excellent absinthe for bitterness amateurs!

Did you know?

- The label of Libertine 72 bottle was taken from a painting that we specially ordered from a young of the Vosges. It represents a scene of absinthe being consumed in a café.

- During the Belle Epoque, after Pontarlier, Fougerolles had the highest number of producers of absinthe. Sometimes some of the casks used in Fougerolles were sent to Pontarlier to cover their needs.

- Libertine 72 participated in the 2007 Absinthiades ; it was awarded 6th place.

Serving Suggestion

- At first, savour Libertine 72 with half a piece of sugar. Then add more or less according to your taste.

- For one measure of absinthe (3cl), add 2 to 5 measure of fresh water.

24 Dec 2019

First off, please do not be put off by the three-star rating, it’s just that I’m comparing this reasonably priced offering to the very high standard of many pricier offerings on this site. Libertine is tasty, and I will probably buy again due to the low price. That being said, I am a fan of the herbal bite which is why I drink absinthe. In this one, it’s a little less pronounced and I’m not quite getting the bite that I’m craving sometimes. The flavor is well-balanced however and might be a good introduction to absinthe for the inexperienced. I love the darker color and the flavor is a bit different, so worth having in my collection

24 Jun 2019

Excellente; absinthe très savoureuse. Très bonne qualité

13 Dec 2018

12 Nov 2018

Très bien - envoi rapide, emballage soigné, très bon produit.

6 Oct 2018

Just got this in my latest shipment. It is absolutely lovely. Milkiest louche I've encountered so far! The flavor is very complex. I can taste the fennel! Very good, highly recommended.

4 Oct 2018

My first bottle of Absinthe I have bought and chose myself, took me a while to get the right one and I feel I made the right choice. Once I had the measurements right for my personal preference the taste grew on me. I also like the color of the drink and the La Louche ritual of adding the iced water over the sugar which made it the milky color which made it an enjoyable relaxing drink. Enjoying it very much!

29 Sep 2018

have had only a few absinthe's [ordinaire, grand absinthe, absente, not a critic, but i know what i like, the price, the A.C., the flavor, the louche, all in line for "the working mans absinthe" TO YOUR HEALTH!

23 Jul 2018

Légère et rafraîchissante. En apéritif ou après le travail.

16 Apr 2018

Livraison impeccable.

30 Jul 2017

This is my regular go to absinthe. It is very smooth and and is the perfect compliment to a good cigar.

26 Apr 2017

This absinthe is very flavorful and a very good deal for the money. This is one of the first bottles of absinthe I ever purchased, and I am looking forward to buying it again in the future, I just have to finish what I have first.

23 Feb 2017

"Real" Absinthe! Forte à mon goût! Se boit sans fin! Commande reçu dans les temps! Merci.

9 Nov 2016

Fragrant scents and equal herbal flavors throughout its taste. Atypical of an Absinthe to enjoy with chilled water and cubed sugar.

29 Oct 2016

One of the best absinthes in my opinion, strong and very classic

8 Jun 2016

This was the absinthe recommended to me based on my taste preferences. Taken with two sugars.

Appearance pre-louche - very pale green, much paler than I was expecting.

Louche - Thick and milky, with a very pale green color. It louches pretty easily and quickly compared to other absinthes I've tried.

Smell - Anise, but that seems to be overpowered by alcohol. I don't notice any other herbal notes.

Taste - Well, the anise is definitely there. However I'm not tasting any other herbs commonly associated with absinthe. I don't know if that's because the alcohol content is so high, or if there just weren't a lot of other herbs used in the recipe. This is one of maybe two absinthes I've drunk where you can taste the alcohol; most absinthes I've had hide their strength very well.

I'm not terribly blown away by this tbh. It's not awful by any measure, and considering that I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it I can't say I feel I didn't get my money's worth. This absinthe might be better for say a Death in the Afternoon, where you really want an absinthe with a pronounced anise flavor, rather than as an absinthe to sit around and drink. I wouldn't recommend this as someone's first absinthe. But let's see. Maybe by the time I finish the bottle it'll grow on me.

30 Nov 2014

Color: not bad; just a little greener/paler than a proper peridot.

Louche: fast and thick (thanks to star anise for that, I guess).

Smell: weak and weird, just weird.

Taste: bad, to be honest, like a mix of "anise" flavored candy and recently mowed grass (lots of grass). No detectable wormwood at all. Adding sugar only strengthens the cheap candy remembrance.

Finish: lasting (but fortunately flavorless) numbing of the tongue with some dusty quality.

CONCLUSION: I was tempted to try this one because of its lower price and to have an idea of how badiane-based absinthes do; certainly not the best inversion I've ever made but lessons were learned.

16 Jan 2014

3 Jul 2013

Quite herbaceous, with a nice high-proof bite. I would not foul it with sugar -- just ice-cold distilled water.

3 Jun 2013

30 Mar 2013

This has more or less become my standard absinthe. It's definitely (!) worth its price as one of the cheaper brands of properly distilled and no bogus absinthes. Libertine 72 also goes really well diluted so that's also an argument for its value...

28 Mar 2013

28 Mar 2013

I realized that when I'm not sure which I want, I will always go for this one. Especially in the evening, or after I've already had an absinthe (or two). So, although there are better and more complex absinthes available, I gave this an extra star because of my subconscious attraction. I will always have some of this in my cupboard.

27 Mar 2013

26 May 2012

First of all, I would strongly disagree with the voiced view that the fennel was hard and it was too alcoholic. I found the fennel was noticeable, though certainly not overpowering, and with a 1:3 dilution the alcoholic taste was just right, complementing the natural bitterness of the herbs. Overall, whilst only 1 of 5 absinthes I've tried, I still found it highly agreeable. I can also confirm the comment that the taste becomes addictive after the first few sips.

18 May 2012

18 May 2012

18 May 2012

18 May 2012

8 Mar 2012

A fab but dangerous absinthe, less complex than the Jade or Pernod ranges, but still tweety enough on the palate and nose. A thick woody-sweet herbal taste, and an excellent louche. Thank you absinthes dot com for a good, speedy, value for money package.

8 Mar 2012

17 Oct 2011

I love it! It is simply amazing.
Better than a lot of products that are €20 more expensive.

13 Aug 2011

20 Jun 2011

Not my favourite Absinthe. Too mutch alcool taste. Fennel very hard.

18 May 2011

A really nice absinthe to be honest, thoroughly impressed.

16 May 2011

votre chaise devient alors trone
pour deguster cette libertine

28 Nov 2010

14 Feb 2009

The Libertine absinthe is a good product to drink reasonably because of its high alcohol level.

14 Feb 2009

Paul Devoille, France

devoille_distillery

1859: The distillery was founded by Xavier Devoille. His son, Paul Devoille, was very dedicated to developing the distillery, and worked hard on its growth. This is why up until this day, the distillery is named after him. Paul Devoille was a very important person in Fougerolles, he held the position of the major for many years.

1986: Due to the bad financial position the distillery was in, Jaques Veillet, the new owner of the distillery, decided to sell it to an experienced business man, who already invested into a couple of other distilleries inside and outside on France. René Miscault bought the distillery, and made some rapid administrational changes. He also expanded their product range, and opened the distillery for visitors to the public. These measures may seem drastic, however, they saved the distillery in the end. Today, Hugues Miscault, the son of René Miscault, runs the distillery.

Paul Devoille's Absinthe:

Their probably most popular absinthes, apart from the Libertines, and the Enigma Verte and Enigma Blanche. Absinthe Soixante-Cinq is a pretty interesting absinthe as well, with a quite spicy smell combined with a fruityness from the wine-alcohol base. Certainly, there are a lot of other spirits produced at Paul Devoille, such as eau-de-vies and liqueurs. From plum to strawberry, you can find nearly all of the common flavours.
