The Cognac Tesseron Lot n° 90 – XO Sélection is a mixture of various vintages that combine freshness and purity.
Tesseron cognacs are produced exclusively in local stills made of red bronze that are produced in the Charente region of France. After distillation, the cognac is left to age in Limousin oak casks in a 17th century crypt. It adopts its unique tannin tones from the casks, and otherwise develops a beautifully warm color and a one-of-a-kind flavor during the aging process. After aging is completed, the cognac is filled in large glass balloons which live in the paradise of the Abel Tesseron home, waiting to be bottled and sold.
This cognac contains 40% alcohol by volume and possesses a uniquely spicy and complex character. The aroma of fresh pears and quince also allow the follow-up aromas of herbs, dried fruits, and hazelnuts to have their own space. The finale is surprisingly toned by a pleasant almond flavor. On the palate, this imposing cognac can be recognized by its unique complexity, unusual for such a young cognac.>
It is best served pure, a bit chilled or with ice in a snifter.
Otherwise, it is perfectly suited as a spice in the kitchen as well as a mixer in longdrinks and cocktails with schnapps as a basis.

The history of Tesseron Cognac
Founded in 1905 by Abel Tesseron, whose father already produced Cognac in his time, the house of Tesseron is now run by Abel's nephew Alfred. The registered office of this family producer is in Châteauneuf-sur-Charente, just next to the local church built in the 13th-century and the crypt, a part of which is used to age Tesseron's Cognacs.
The strategy of the business since the beginning has been to develop and produce the finest quality products possible. With this goal, they were limited within the first 100 years or so to selling their products to other Cognac producers, who used the Tesseron product to refine their own mixtures. Only at the beginning of this century are Tesseron Cognacs available pure and are generally considered one of the best products on the market, the so-called crème de la crème. The slogan of the company, "XO & Beyond", hints at their quality. Core to their strategy is the world renown cellar where their oldest Cognacs develop their age, the paradise of the House of Tesseron. There you can find about 2200 balloon-style bottles, that were filled between 1825 and 1906.
The Lot No-Nummer is especially helpful when comparing the different Cognacs from Tesseron. That's how the producer denotes the average year of distillation of the specific bottle of magic elixir at hand. Declaring the age of the Cognac only implicitly in this way follows certain rules of documentation laid out by the BNIC, therefore not to be broken.
The quality of Tesseron Cognac:
The wine, which is distilled to become Tesseron Cognac, originally only contains about 8% alcohol by volume, relatively little in comparison to other wines. In the cool and damp cellar underneath the old church, the Cognac ages exclusively in kegs from the wood of the Limousin oak. The exceptional quality of Tesseron Cognac is also achieved by the usage of not only the grape Ugnic Blanc, but also the Folle Blanche and Colombard, which are more sensitive and less fertile grape types.
