This absinthe has been discontinued by the producers. For another absinthe of excellent quality, from the same distillery, try Absinthe Roquette 1797.

Doubs Mystique absinthe is as modern as it is complex. It suggests very charming herbaceous notes.

This 100% natural absinthe is produced mainly with plants that come from Pontarlier. These have been chosen with the greatest care in order to guarantee a rich absinthe with a large and complex aromatic palette.

Although it is not issued from a historical recipe, as are other absinthes from the distillery Emile pernot, Doubs Mystique is nevertheless a high quality absinthe. The grand wormwood plant is pronounced as well as the green anise.

An absinthe of a new generation, to discover as soon as possible!

Emile Pernot, France

1899 :

the young Emile-Ferdinand Pernot, a native of the Fougerolles region, where he had trained as a distiller, joins the Parrot brothers and together they establish “Emile Pernot et Cie” located in Pontarlier. Emile-Ferdinand's son, Emile-Joseph (don't worry, none of their sons were called Emile-Emile even though they loved this first name), a survivor of the World War I trenches, later registers the famous name “Emile Pernot”.

2009 :

The distillery moves from the center of Pontarlier to the magnificent old Cousin Jeune building in La Cluse et Mijoux, at the foot of the Château de Joux, the very same building where the young Emile-Joseph Pernot learnt his trade a century earlier. And you know what? It was a pure coincidence – the building had been a post office and a fire station in the intervening years!

Absinthe distillation at Emile Pernot :

The two century-old copper alembics used by Emile Pernot for their absinthe distillations were made by the famous firm of Egrot in the early 1900s. They were especially designed and built for absinthe distillation, and they are the only stills of their kind in operation anywhere in the world. These stills allow the Pernot distillery to produce absinthes of exceptional quality according to methods unchanged for a century.

This is by far my favourite everyday absinthe. I really hope it comes back in stock soon.

For such a complex, herbaceous absinthe, Doubs is quite delicate in flavor, smooth, with the kind of lasting taste and quality typical of Emile Pernot.
Emile Pernot have done a great kindness by purchasing the rights to Doubs and re-inventing it as a fine and outstanding example of modern absinthe.
(Should you be curious about the original South African brew - DON'T BE! - Just imagine how radioactive toilet cleaner would taste and you'll be mighty close.)

This is a great choice. Was our first choice and is also our greatest choice after sampling other bottles. You will not feel ripped off and it has a great taste with even better effect.
Our only issue was with our last order one of our bottles was chipped .when I emailed them to tell them. All they gave was 10% off next order. That kinda sucks that they could not ratify any other way. We spent our time looking for a piece of glass in each glasses we poured.
BUT STILL. This is a great absinthe!!!

I researched for several weeks what was available and recommended as the "Best" before I bought two bottles of Mystique. Since they have been gone now for a couple of years and having tasted many others since, I can truly say that Mystique is one of my all time favorites!

This was our first absinthe. It tooks alot of research before springing for a bottle. That night we finished a bottle somehow. Taste was clean and not chemical tasting like most, it had an amazing stoney buzz that kept you awake as well. Highly suggest it.
Have tasted others and they do not compare, exeption of mansithe that is a clever one too.

Interesting but a little thin. For those who prefer less anis and a more herbal taste. Worth trying but not my favorite.
