A strong, floral and complex Blanche from France. Its wine alcohol base adds spicy notes and the recipe includes 11 plants Read the whole description
- The Blanche de Fougerolles is now known under the name Enigma Blanche. Though the recipe has not changed, the label has, it now displays an Art-Nouveau design, in the vein of 1900 absinthe posters. The Enigma is still the fine wine alcohol-based absinthe that worldwide absintheurs have praised since 2003 under the name Blanche de Fougerolles, no change there, the name Enigma has been adopted in 2010 simply because of the issues for non-French speakers to say the name “Fougerolles”.
- During the Belle Epoque, after Pontarlier, Fougerolles had the highest number of producers of absinthe. Sometimes some of the casks used in Fougerolles were sent to Pontarlier to cover their needs.
- Enigma Blanche participated in the 2007 Absinthiades ; it was awarded 5th place.
The Devoille distillery was founded in 1859. It still bears the name of its founder, Paul Devoille, since he largely contributed to its success and the beginning of the century. He is to be thanked for the recipe of Libertine (1894), now preciously kept at the Musée des Eaux de Vie in Lapoutroie, France.
After having belonged to Raymond Gouttefroy (son-in-law of Paul Devoille), the distillery was handed over to René de Miscault in 1985. The latter considerably changed the running of the company and enlarged the range of its products and also opened the Paul Devoille distillery to the public.
Today it is Hugues de Miscault, the son of René de Miscault, who runs this family distillery.
- At first, savour Enigma Blanche with half a piece of sugar. Then add more or less according to your taste.
- For one measure of absinthe (3cl), add 2 to 5 measure of fresh water.

Added on the : 01/12/2017First absinthe I I have ever tasted. It is delightful. I'm still too new to give tasting notes, but I am following a suggestion and putting it away, after 5 glasses, in the cupboard for 6 months to see how the flavor changes.

Added on the : 17/05/2017Haven't had a bottle of Fudge Rolls in 8 or so years. Just as good as I recall. Absolutely one of my favorites. Taste is phenomenal. Not heavy on the anise. The other herbs come through quite distinctly. I have had supposedly higher end absinthes, but nothing so far tops this jewel.
