Intended for absinthe connoisseurs, Enigma Blanche has particularly harmonious and complex aromas. It is an authentic absinthe distilled according to a traditional 19th century absinthe recipe from Switzerland.

Absinthe expert Marc Thuillier reviewed this absinthe, read his tasting notes here.

Enigma Blanche is produced exclusively from plants and seeds which have been macerated in alcohol distilled from wine, similar to an unaged brandy. This gives it a more complex aroma than most absinthes, which are usually distilled with neutral alcohol.

Eleven plants are used in its production, including: Grand Wormwood, Petite wormwood, green anise, hyssop, veronica, chamomile, genepi, fennel, coriander and angelica.

Enigma Blanche has the particularity of having been produced from a distilled blend (each plant distilled individually before blending, rather than all plants being mixed together at the same time and distilled.) Made in Fougerolles at the Paul Devoille distillery, who were once producers of top quality absinthe, during its heyday, and in recent years have once again become one of the most admired absinthe distilleries.

Paul Devoille, France

The distillery was founded by Xavier Devoille. His son, Paul Devoille, was very dedicated to developing the distillery, and worked hard on its growth. This is why up until this day, the distillery is named after him. Paul Devoille was a very important person in Fougerolles, he held the position of the major for many years.

Due to the bad financial position the distillery was in, Jaques Veillet, the new owner of the distillery, decided to sell it to an experienced business man, who already invested into a couple of other distilleries inside and outside on France. René Miscault bought the distillery, and made some rapid administrational changes. He also expanded their product range, and opened the distillery for visitors to the public. These measures may seem drastic, however, they saved the distillery in the end. Today, Hugues Miscault, the son of René Miscault, runs the distillery.

Paul Devoille's Absinthe:

Their probably most popular absinthes, apart from the Libertines, and the Enigma Verte and Enigma Blanche. Absinthe Soixante-Cinq is a pretty interesting absinthe as well, with a quite spicy smell combined with a fruityness from the wine-alcohol base. Certainly, there are a lot of other spirits produced at Paul Devoille, such as eau-de-vies and liqueurs. From plum to strawberry, you can find nearly all of the common flavours.

Now, for a blanche, this is quite a treat. I would actually like to give it a four and a half. It's not perfection (to my liking) but near enough.

First absinthe I I have ever tasted. It is delightful. I'm still too new to give tasting notes, but I am following a suggestion and putting it away, after 5 glasses, in the cupboard for 6 months to see how the flavor changes.

Haven't had a bottle of Fudge Rolls in 8 or so years. Just as good as I recall. Absolutely one of my favorites. Taste is phenomenal. Not heavy on the anise. The other herbs come through quite distinctly. I have had supposedly higher end absinthes, but nothing so far tops this jewel.

I enjoyed this much more than the hapsburg. Great loucheing and taste. I would buy this again.
