The Nouvelle-Orléans absinthe, created by T.A. Breaux, is an absinthe for connoisseurs.

Colour: Pale forest green.

Louche: Not too quick, not too slow, a good progressive louche.Aroma: Inviting and intriguing sweet spiciness.

Taste: Warm, rich and complex, very unusual taste compared to the other Jades, but this one is creation rather than a reproduction of a vintage absinthe. A winter beverage!

Finish: A long spicy, peppery and bitter finish. You hate it or love it!

Jade Liqueurs & Combier, France

1834 :

Jean-Baptiste Combier, 25, opens the Combier-Destre candy store in Saumur together with his brother Claude. Thanks to an alembic installed in the back shop, he distils some liqueurs to fill his candies and chocolates with.

1848 :

J ean-Baptiste buys more alembics and establishes the Combier distillery on the rue Beaurepaire, where it still is located today. This is the starting point of a booming business, Combier now sells its liqueurs all over the world.

1861 :

Jean-Baptiste Combier's son James, only 19 years old, learns the art of distillation before traveling to England, Algeria, Italy, Greece and Egypt, from where he brings new essences and herbs for Combier Liqueurs.

Absinthe distillation at Combier :

Combier owns its own fields of 2 wormwood cultivars, harvested by hand and traditionally dried in an attic. There are 10 alembics from the 19th century in the distilling room, including 8 from Egrot (the famous maker of Pernod Fils alembics at the time).

My second-favorite absinthe after Jade's 1901, it has an almost undefinable New Orleans coastal funkiness to it that actually works extremely well, though it sounds incongruous. Of course neither I nor most people have ever tasted a pre-ban New Orleans absinthe, but if they were this good, they were very good indeed. Highly recommended.

Another gorgeous Jade. Amongst the Jade line this is probably the lightest; it tastes lighter on wormwood than the Terminus Oxygénée but with a similar aniseed profile. Again, beautiful taste, clean and lovely, peppery, dangerously easy to drink. If you enjoy anise, definitely do yourself a favour and try this one.

Had a glass of this at the Absinthe House in New Orleans last year and was blown away. Exceptional quality for the price. Makes a great gift for any absinthe lover in your life! Shipping to the US takes a bit of time though (3-4 weeks), so order well in advance.

Smooth and strong at the same time - a fantastic pairing with champagne and little nibbles for the new year.

I will begin by saying that the Absinthes.com team is unbelievable when it comes to service! Every company should be so professional and passionate about their work and more businesses should model themselves after Absinthes.com.
Having said that this particular jade is just that a JADE! Among the best absinthes in the world.

It does not disappoint. ..the wormwood is of exceptional quality and the flavours are like a honeymoon in the mouth! I am not a professional taster so its a little harder to be descriptive. ...but I have tasted 20 + brands and I can tell whats good and whats not .

All of the Jades are at the apex of the absinthe world......thanks Absinthes.com for sharing through distribution this liquid gold!!

Good but very strong taste. Will probably not order again but glad for the experience.

Creamy, electrifying mouth-feel. Lovely alone with some ice-cold spring water (3:1 ratio) or built into a cocktail of historical proportions.

Absolutely in my top ten, this Absinthe is carefully crafted using traditional methods; not an ordinary product.
This one is the first produced by T. A. Breaux for the Jade Absinthe brand and should be a sort of recreation of the absinthe drunk in New Orleans until the 20th century ban.
Fresh taste, good balance with an alcohol bite a bit more present than the others Jade products.
Nouvelle Orlean is perfect for the usual french ritual but also for the historical absinthe-based cocktails.
Recommended to connoisseurs.
