Description of the products

The absinthe St. Antoine is based on a French recipe ; it is certainly one of the best Czech absinthes!

Every product used for its production is natural and it is not sweetened at the Zufanek distillery.
Its coloration comes only from plants, mainly petit wormwood, hyssop and Melissa.

That is the proof that there are some good absinthes in the Czech Republic!

Discover our tasting notes of Absinthe St. Antoine here.

The first clear absinthe from the Zufanek distillery in Czech Republic. Amave has a slightly sweet taste and is rounded off by a fruity note.

Mead Base is a special absinthe, that is very uncommon in the wide ranges of absinthes around today. Instead of the usual grain alcohol, Mead Base is distilled from honey wine (mead) that was aged for three years. All six herbs used to distill this deliciously sweet absinthe are cultivated in the Zufanek's garden and on their land. In fact, almost all ingredients the distiller family uses to produce their spirits, is grown, cultivated and harvested by the family.

The result of distilling an absinthe on the base of mead is a gentle and herbal spirit, with a lovely aroma of honey. Compared to the other Zufanek absinthes, Mead Base contains less anise and fennel in order to maintain the distinct, sweet aroma of honey, and to not overpower it. This means the Mead Base shows a quite thin louche, and probably ideal for absinthe fans who don't like the taste of heavy anise. Only 110l of this rare speciality are made each year - so if you're curious, don't miss out on the opportunity to get hold of a bottle!
The Bohème absinthe spoon fits snugly onto every average sized absinthe glass, and will be an eye catcher during the classic French ritual, but also the fire ritual.

This spoon fits perfectly in one of our hardcover spoon boxes, available in black and green.

Zufanek, Czech Republic

The Zufanek Distillery was founded in 2000. At first, the family focused on the production of honey and fruit based liqueurs. In 2008, Martin started to distill absinthe and the St. Antoine was the first one of this distillery. Shortly after the launch of St. Antoine, Martin created La Grenouille, and absinthe Mead Base.

What's special about this distillery is that all fruit used for the production of their spirits are cultivated on their own orchards. Most of the herbs used for the absinthes are also grown by the Zufanek family themselves.

Their mission is: 100% natural products.
