In culinary jargon, “creole” usually denotes exoticaly floral, fruity spicy aromas. In the Creole Bitters from The Bitter Truth you'll find this creole impression through a balanced mix of anise, fennel, cardamom, caraway and more.

The extracts blend with each other to create a highly interesting essence, where the alcohol content of 39% ABV clearly shines through.

It's noticeable to the eye that the Creole Bitters from the Bitter Truth are exactly the same hue as Peychaud's Bitters which gives the Pink Gin its famous color.

A further motive became clear, when The Bitter Truth decided to release their Creole Bitters in 2010 on the market: Apparently the Bavarians were trying to fill a niche in the market, which the Sazerac Company left open since Peychaud's is notoriously hard to find in some places, and now unavailable in the whole of Europe. And all that despite its status as one of the two bitters producers that survived the Prohibition and is still in worldwide demand today.

Time can only tell how the market is going to develop. But, even still, it's highly improbable that one of the bitters producers will overshadow the other. They simply taste too different, both products, although they are both certainly high class products.

Thanks to their know how in the realm of bitters, the team Berg and Hauk have done more than fill a hole in the market. Their Creole Bitters from The Bitter Truth can be used with most spirits to compliment them in its own, unique way (see cocktail with The Bitter Truth Creole Bitters).

The Bitter Truth

The Bitter Truth, often TBT for short, was more significant in leading the rediscovery of cocktails bitter than almost any other company. It was in the summer of 2006 when Stephen Berg and Alexander Hauck decided to do something against the misery of the cocktail industry, which for them meant a lack of good bitters in the first instance.
