The production of walnut liqueurs has a long-standing tradition in the Dauphiné, the region where the mother abbey of the Carthusian order is located. The monks of the of the Grand Chartreuse, makers of the infamous Chartreuse herbal liqueurs, took up this tradition and created this delicious walnut liqueur according to a traditional recipe.

For the production of this liqueur, green walnuts are collected in St. Jean and macerated in alcohol. After the addition of sugar, a secret macerate of various other plants is added, in order to create the unique taste. Simply divine.

The liqueur has been aged in oak barrels for several years before the bottling and a careful quality control takes place.

A wonderful aperitif produced according to a traditional french recipe that been brought back to life by the monks of the Carthusian order!

The original French name of this liqueur is 'Eau de noix des Pères Chartreux'.

Chartreuse

Chartreuse liqueurs are especially valuable spirits that are produced by monks at the Grande Chartreuse, the head monastery of the Carthusian religious order, in Voiron – near Grenoble, in France.

The production of Chartreuse liqueur is wound up in many secrets and myths. There are only two monks, Minister Benoit and Brother Jean-Jacques, who know the 130 various ingredients of the original recipe. Other sources relating to the original recipe are known by a third monk. We are relatively sure that ca. 1/3 of the ingredients originate in the Chartreuse region and the other 2/3 come from all over the world. All the ingredients, even including the coloring agents, used in all the charterhouse-produced liqueurs are 100% organic.
