Iris Krader had always dreamt of making her own gin.

Having made her name with quality eau-de-vie - with fruit from her own orchards, no less - and having recently upgraded her still to a beautiful shining new 150 litre Arnold Holstein copper still, Iris finally had the chance to make her gin a reality.

IRIS Dry Gin is made personally by Iris Krader at the Scholerhof microdistillery and vineyard, in the Black Forest, Germany. The wine-growing estate has been owned by the family for more than a century.

IRIS Gin has become the distillery's great success story within a very short time.

Artisanal production
on a human scale. Judge for yourself:

1. Iris Krader picks most of the herbs, fruits and spices used to flavour the gin herself.
2. The wood used to heat the still comes from her land.
3. And as we discovered when we went to visit her for a morning of distilling, her adorable little black dog is along for the ride too, making for good company and mischief on a day of gin-making.

20 different botanical species are used to produce this Gin. Most of them come from the southern Black Forest or from the own estate's orchard. Among the ingredients are wild sloes, blackberry leaves, lavender flowers, as well as juniper berries. The ingredients coming from the orchard are picked by Iris Krader herself.

The distillation takes place in a 150 litre copper still fuelled with beechwood, the same fuel traditionally used to fire the stills for fruit eau-de-vie schnapps in this region. After distillation and having had a bit of time to rest, the IRIS Dry Gin is blended with fresh spring water from the Black Forest to bring the alcohol down to 47% ABV. Naturally, no sugar or artificial flavouring substances are added during the production. In total, only small batches of 200 bottles are produced.

The scent of the Black Forest Gin is characterized by its floral, citrussy, fruity notes, as well as juniper.

Its taste is mild and slightly peppery, with lemon flavours and delicate notes of juniper. This gin has a long finish, particularly savoury, that highlights the coriander flavour. A unique taste experience!

Alongside ingredients coming from the Black Forest, IRIS Gin shows off its regional roots through its design. The label features a Schwarzwaldmädel (Black Forest Maiden) in a costume inspired by local traditional clothing, wearing a beautiful Bollenhut, a hat with red pompoms. Inspired by the Bollenhut, a red pompom adorns each bottle sent out into the world by RUEVERTE.

A great surprise from the Black Forest. Sweet and fresh taste that surprises. Aromas of pepper and coriander give a special taste when you drink it in gin & tonic.
