Absinthe La Verte is produced by the Bourgeois distillery in traditional ways. The small distillery is located in the family home in Arçon, France.

The couple cultivates almost all of the plants (except for the green anise) in their own garden with special attention to a high quality. In order to develop the recipe, they did quite a few test distillation before they were satisfied with the result.

The La Verte has a refreshing taste and a perfectly balanced herbal note.

This absinthe was awarded the gold medal (grand or) at the Absinthiades 2017 and 2019! It also got the gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole 2019 and 2020.

Discover also the other absinthes from the Bourgeois distillery: the Absinthe La Fine and the Absinthe La Blanche.

Bourgeois, France

The Bourgeois distillery is located in Arçon, in France, not far from Pontarlier. The couple Arnaud and Anne-Sophie Bourgeois produces three absinthes in their organic distillery: two clear ones and one green absinthe.

They cultivate organic vegetables only and the herbs used for their absinthes are also from 100% organic farming. Among these are grande wormwood, petite wormwood, hyssop and fennel. They only buy the green anise from Mediterranean growing regions.

Arnaud Bourgeois opened his distillery in the beginning of 2015 and got some good tips from DuVallon. The labels were designed with the help of the artist Charles Belle.

Nice absinthe with a strong alcohol content. The bitterness was prominent but even-tempered and I feel that this is one absinthe that actually does benefit from a small amount of sugar. Several flavors hit your tongue at once, but then seem to fade quickly in my opinion - which is unfortunate. I found I enjoyed it most when the water remains ice cold. This may be a decent absinthe for someone who wants to try something new. I didn't give 5 stars, because there didn't appear to be any overwhelming characteristic that would separate this absinthe from many of the other ones I've tasted. This is a very good absinthe, but not great.

Not As green as name implied. However, not really the point, as taste is everything and taste was devine. Medium louche. Lovely, fragrant bouquet.
