Description of the products

The Jade 1901 absinthe from Ted Breaux, a replica of the historical Pernod Fils, is an absinthe for connoisseurs.

Colour: clear emerald green.

Louche: Builds up quickly in layers with the characteristic oil trails until it turns into fully opaque.

Aroma: Green anise fills the room as the louche forms.

Taste: Creamy with a juicy green anise in front, shortly followed by a kind of floral wormwood and a powdery hyssop, just like in a pre-ban Pernod Fils, its ancestor. The 1901 is definitely the best reproduction of a vintage absinthe!

Finish: No secret here, the savoury green anise numbs the tongue and palate, in a lovely way.

The Jade V.S. 1898 absinthe, a replica of the historical C.F. Berger, is an absinthe for connoisseurs.

The distillery of C. F. Berger was founded in Couvet, in the canton of Neufchâtel, Switzerland in 1823. The Berger distillery crafted several Swiss style absinthes, the most famous of these being the C. F. Berger 65º absinthe verte, which earned its status as one of the premier absinthes of the 19th century. Unfortunately, the C. F. Berger distillery came to a halt with the Swiss ban of 1910, and the distillery ceased all activities in Switzerland shortly after.

This fine Swiss absinthe was almost lost forever if it had not been for the resurfacing of original, unopened bottles, which Jade Liqueurs was able to secure for preservation. Using proprietary analytical techniques, Jade Liqueurs has resurrected this beautiful liquor from extinction.

It is an accurate recreation of the C. F. Berger absinthe and is identical to the original down to incredibly minute details. It is crafted entirely by hand using select botanicals from the original regions, and is carefully distilled in absinthe sills that were obtained directly from Pernod Fils in the early 20th century.

The Jade VS 1898 absinthe recalls a century-old tradition of fine Swiss style absinthes, and enables connoisseurs to savour a journey into history.

Colour: Light peridot with a touch of yellow, clear and natural.

Louche: Slowly builds with great oils trails and nice layering.

Aroma: Lovely and complex overtone of anise and spices.

Taste: Wonderfully balanced, round and smooth, with just enough spiciness to make it really unique. Again, a top-quality green anise and a great balance that only the finest beverages achieve.

Finish: Confectioner's sugar and liquorice on the finish, nice and lingering, and a bit mouth-numbing. Very fresh.

The Nouvelle-Orléans absinthe, created by T.A. Breaux, is an absinthe for connoisseurs.

Colour: Pale forest green.

Louche: Not too quick, not too slow, a good progressive louche.Aroma: Inviting and intriguing sweet spiciness.

Taste: Warm, rich and complex, very unusual taste compared to the other Jades, but this one is creation rather than a reproduction of a vintage absinthe. A winter beverage!

Finish: A long spicy, peppery and bitter finish. You hate it or love it!

The Jade Esprit Edouard absinthe, a replica of the historical Edouard Pernod, is an absinthe for connoisseurs.

By 1897, the house of Edouard Pernod boasted a reputation for crafting some of the best absinthe the world has ever known. At the time of the ban (in 1915 in France), Edouard Pernod had become the 3rd largest absinthe distiller in France. The Edouard Pernod label was considered by many absinthe connoisseurs to be one of the finest marques, certainly on par with the famed Pernod Fils, A. Junod and Fritz Duval labels.

Almost a century later, bottles of perfectly preserved Edouard Pernod absinthe have yielded the secrets of this famed producer. The exquisite taste of this antique absinthe is incredibly smooth and delicious.

The Jade Esprit Edouard absinthe is a fabulously faithful reproduction of the famous Edouard Pernod 72° absinthe that was highly popular during the Belle Époque. It is absolutely correct to the original, from its delicate tint, to its refined texture and delightfully aromatic finish.

We invite you to experience the unrivalled quality, tradition, and mystique that only Jade Esprit Edouard absinthe can deliver.

Colour: Pale amber/green with slight olive tinge.

Louche: Good thick trails and good action right from the get-go.

Aroma: Complex, spicy and hard to pin down, but the green anise is again a winner here.

Taste: Don't try to compare this with preban Edouard Pernod, this is miles away. But it doesn't mean that it's uninteresting, it has its own character! The anise, wormwood and fennel mix perfectly with the other herbs, including a noticeable peppery coriander.

Finish: Numbs the mouth a bit but doesn't force itself at all. Smooth and delightful.

The long awaited final chapter of Jade liqueurs' absinthe portfolio.

The development of Jade Terminus Absinthe Oxygenee took several years: historical sleuthing, botanical research and patience were all necessary to produce this high quality absinthe.

Jade Terminus is an homage to one of the best absinthes of the Belle Epoque: Cusenier Oxygenée. The Cusenier distillery created this absinthe in reponse to claims that absinthe was dangerous, and claimed that their proprietary oxygenation process left the absinthe free of any potentially deleterious properties. We now know that absinthe is only as harmful as any other alcoholic drink, however this unique oxygenation process lent a unique character to the absinthe, so to make Jade Terminus Oxygenee Ted Breaux decided to use a hot oxygenation process closely mirroring the original technique.

This handcrafted absinthe is distilled by T.A. Breaux, according to traditional french methods, and aged fully for several years. Absinthe alembics from the 19th century have been used for its destillation in the historical Combier distillery. This absinthe is made of a eau-de-vie base spirit, unusual Alpine varieties of wormwood, and other European herbs. No sugar or artificial colours are in the recipe. This absinthe has rested for an average of 3 years before bottling.

This absinthe represents the most powerful expression of the spirit in the Jade portfolio!

Creamy, with potent aromatics and a lengthy, stimulating aftertaste, recalling the medicinal origins of the spirit.

Developed by T.A. Breaux, a professional scientist and absinthe specialist, Coeur de Jade forms the "heart" of classical absinthe and liqueurs distilled by Jade Liqueurs and the Combier Distillery: Esprit Edouard, Jade 1901, Perique tobacco liqueur, and all the others. Produced according to 19th century traditional methods, and distilled from selected wine varieties, Coeur de Jade is the base spirit which gets blended with herbs and distilled to make Jade absinthe.

It is now available after many requests from those who appreciate the traditional Jade absinthes and want to taste the main ingredient of their favourite spirits.

It took a long time to develop such an extraordinary eau-de-vie. Indeed and contrary to many wine spirits, this eau-de-vie is distilled in accordance authentic historical procedures, avoiding modern column still distillation which strips out so much of the beautifully unique fruity fragrances. The end product is wonderfully close to authentic 19th century eau-de-vie.

The distinctive flavours of this smooth and aromatic brandy can also be used as an amazing base for original cocktails. Serve in the same way you would any other high-quality brandy or grappa: in a snifter.

Jade Liqueurs & Combier, France

1834 :

Jean-Baptiste Combier, 25, opens the Combier-Destre candy store in Saumur together with his brother Claude. Thanks to an alembic installed in the back shop, he distils some liqueurs to fill his candies and chocolates with.

1848 :

J ean-Baptiste buys more alembics and establishes the Combier distillery on the rue Beaurepaire, where it still is located today. This is the starting point of a booming business, Combier now sells its liqueurs all over the world.

1861 :

Jean-Baptiste Combier's son James, only 19 years old, learns the art of distillation before traveling to England, Algeria, Italy, Greece and Egypt, from where he brings new essences and herbs for Combier Liqueurs.

Absinthe distillation at Combier :

Combier owns its own fields of 2 wormwood cultivars, harvested by hand and traditionally dried in an attic. There are 10 alembics from the 19th century in the distilling room, including 8 from Egrot (the famous maker of Pernod Fils alembics at the time).
