The Pernod distillery in Thuir

The Pernod distillery in Thuir is located in one of the historic homes of the brand near Perpignan, in Southern France. The distillery is part of Pernod’s factory where Suze, Byrrh and the firm’s wine-based aperitifs, are produced. It was officially opened in October 2013.
Pernod began the 2-year long construction of the site after the French law-makers voted to lift the nation-wide ban in 2011.

Absinthes.com introduces the Emile Pernot distillery

Every month, we’ll be featuring a distillery, whether famous or less well-known, sharing a few details on its history and what they make there, and personally interviewing the master distiller or owner of the distillery, giving you their take on absinthe.

For the featured distillery, we’ll also have a special offer, and a free gift for you.(scroll down to the last paragraph if you want to see the discount and the gift right now).

Today, we’re pleased to start our new series with a 120 year old distillery: Les Fils d’Emile Pernot (The Sons of Emile Pernot).

Get to know our distilleries – through the “Distillery of the Month”

We are always looking for ways to pass on all the knowledge we gain through our work. Therefore, we will start publishing a monthly newsletter, that will introduce one of the distilleries, where we get our absinthes from. The stories will contain pictures, interviews and a lot of background information about each one of them. This will be extremely interesting, because many of these distilleries have been around for centuries, and most of them are still family run.

In order for us to gather the right information together, we have to be at the distilleries! This is why we took a short trip to Fougerolles, France, on Friday, and visited two local distilleries: Lemercier Freres and Paul Devoille.

I am not going to go into too much detail here (otherwise, the newsletter would be worthless!), but you can take a look at a couple of first pictures here:

Lemercier Freres:

This is a family run distillery, founded in 1811. Amongst absinthe, they also distill Eaux-de-vie.
