The year begins with mild temperatures. In February and March it gets colder and begins to snow regularly. On the 7th of June the thermometer displays a remarkable -5° Celsius! This month is characterized by below-average temperatures – but regardless of the temperature, the first blossoms can be seen. A serious heat wave arrives to the region from the middle of July onwards, and it doesn't rain once for an entire month. At the end of August there are a few storms here and there that bring with them the much-needed rain but also cause a bit of damage to some vines. A month-long dry spell begins on September 1st. The optimal weather just before the harvest goes a long way: the quality of this year's vintage is remarkable.

Did you know?

Caves Bourdy are the oldest producer in the region, with a direct family line going back to the 16th century. Their cellars contain the oldest collection of vintage Château Chalon and Cotes du Jura in existence, with some wines going back to the 19th and even 18th century. We work exclusively with Jean-Francois Bourdy to occasionally make limited numbers of these irreplaceable old vintages available to discerning collectors. All wines come direct from Bourdy's cellar to our own, and so are in perfect mint condition.

Serving Suggestion

In order to allow the wine to breathe and develop its full bouquet, we recommend opening the bottle two to three hours before consuming. This subtle wine is best enjoyed slightly chilled, at a temperature of between 13 and 15° Celsius. Vin de Paille is typically served to accompany dessert, and can be saved and let to age for over one hundred years! This special wine from Jean Bourdy exemplifies a remarkable balance between honey, candied exotic fruits and acidic flavors.

The Domaine Jean Bourdy is a very old winery in the French Jura region. Founded in 1579, the family domicile and business looks back at a longstanding history of wine-making. Today, the business is run by the 15th generation of Bourdy relatives. The Bourdy family cultivates their own vineyards and produces exquisite wines only. The business switched to complete bio dynamic cultivation and production and was awarded the Demeter-badge for organic standards in 2010.
