Zufanek Distillery Kontusovka Herbal Liqueur 40% - 50cl
Worn by Polish nobility from the 16th century onwards, the Kontusz was an elaborate and elegant winter garment, a sort of decorative robe. At some point in the following centuries, perhaps due to its noble associations, the Kontusz's name was lent to a liqueur, which in hand also became incredibly popular. Distilled from spirit, anise, fennel, cumin and coriander, Kontusovka (or in the original Polish, Kontuszówka), was popular for decades, before falling into obscurity towards the end of the 20 Century. This light herbal elixir has been brought back to life by talented Czech distiller Martin Zufanek. Taking an original Polish recipe from 1901, he has added five more herbs to the recipe. And most remarkable of all: The spirit he has used for extracting the flavour from the herbs was three year old mead, distilled by the Zufaneks themselves from their own honey. A noble and worthy drink. Recommended.

Zufanek, Czech Republic
The Zufanek Distillery was founded in 2000. At first, the family focused on the production of honey and fruit based liqueurs. In 2008, Martin started to distill absinthe and the St. Antoine was the first one of this distillery. Shortly after the launch of St. Antoine, Martin created La Grenouille, and absinthe Mead Base. What's special about this distillery is that all fruit used for the production of their spirits are cultivated on their own orchards. Most of the herbs used for the absinthes are also grown by the Zufanek family themselves. Their mission is: 100% natural products.
